The UT Martin womens basketball team loses their fourth straight contest after a second half comeback attempt against the Little Rock Trojans fell short.
In the first quarter, UT Martin was outscored 15-9 by the Trojans and shot 4-of-13 from the field including 0-of-4 from the three point line.
The second quarter would be nearly identical as the Skyhawks were outscored yet again as they went 4-of-15 from the field and 1-of-4 from the perimeter.
After being down at half 29-18, the Skyhawks attempted to rally a comeback. The third quarter is where the Skyhawks struggled most this season but this time around they would score 19 to the Trojans 18, going 2-of-9 from the field and 0-of-4 from the three. However, going 15-of-15 from the free throw line made the score 47-37 at half.
In the fourth quarter, the Skyhawks were able to bring the score within one after an early 9-3 run sparked by redshirt junior guard Kenley McCarn. After bringing the score to 56-55 the Skyhawks didn’t capitalize–despite out scoring the Trojans 20-18 in the quarter–and lost 65-57.
Two new career highs were posted for Skyhawk freshman forward Cam Ward with 15 points and 14 rebounds–both of which led the team–for her first collegiate double-double.
Inside the paint, she was able to give the Skyhawks second-chance opportunities and helped provide a spark during the fourth quarter push. Behind her was junior guard Brittani Wells with 10 points. McCarn trailed Wells with nine points and seven rebounds.
With a fourth loss and a season record of 13-14, the Skyhawks look to recuperate.
“Keeping your head down, only affects the rest of your teams performance, at the end of the day you just have to keep playing”, said McCarn.
Next up for the Skyhawks is Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) foe the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on Thursday Feb. 26, 2026, at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. The Skyhawks return home with two games remaining in hopes to finish over .500% and regain some momentum as they currently sit sixth in the OVC ranking and with the regular season coming close to an end, these final games will be important for UT Martin.
A strong finish could help build confidence heading into postseason play. The Skyhawks need to put together two, full four-quarter performances if they want to end the season on a positive note and turn things around as any team above the fifth seed is granted at least a first round bye.
