A new season is finally here

For fans of creator Dan Harmon’s Rick and Morty, it’s been a long time coming, as a new episode of the Adult Swim show hasn’t been released since October 2017.

Due to contract negotiations, the show had been placed in limbo that saw a brief hiatus of more content. However, fans were treated with a preview of the season this fall, and now the first episode of the season is up online for free, according to CNET.

The episode titled “Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat” premiered on Sunday, Nov. 10, for viewers in the US. The episode is available on Adult Swim’s website, but is regionally limited to viewers in the States.

After the conclusion of season three, the show appears to have hit the reset button. We see the Smith family settled in once again, but things are different this time. Character dynamics have changed since the conclusion of the previous season, which is refreshing to see as the show moves forward.

According to Geek.com, “The show picks up with the Smith family having settled into a life where Rick isn’t dictating everything anymore. Beth asserted herself over her father at the end of last season and promised more stability…The relationship dynamics have changed, which forces the writers to come up with new jokes. Rick no longer has open contempt for Morty, and the two feel more like partners this season.”

Similar to previous seasons, season four will also run the course of 10 episodes, co-creator Justin Roiland confirmed earlier this year in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Despite the fact that season four will be split into two halves, with the later half set to release in 2020, Harmon is still cracking down on releasing more Rick and Morty content, saying “We’re literally writing season 5 while finishing season 4 just to force ourselves to commit to a certain schedule,” according to CNET.

But for now, fans are able to once again enjoy more episodes with the promise of more to come in the future.
