Haunted houses and TV shows aren’t the typical expectation when someone mentions Martin, Tenn., but in Merry Brown’s newest book, “Gold Manor Ghost House,” that is exactly what one gets.

Brown’s newest book was published May 2 and is a young adult Paranormal Romance novel.

Brown says her inspiration for this book was her love for the paranormal.

“I like the paranormal world; because I teach philosophy I love thought experiments and sometimes when you change the parameters a little bit, things get interesting,” Brown said.

The book is set in Martin, Tenn., and revolves around Anna Rose, a 16-year-old TV star.  Anna has had bizarre dreams since she can remember.  But when those dreams start becoming reality, her world changes.  The backdrop of the book is Anna’s role on a TV show called “Ghost House,” which is filmed on set in Martin.

“Anna has a very active dreaming life.  A tragedy happened earlier in her life. She watched her aunt die and ever since she’s dreamed of a guy but couldn’t quite recall his identity when she awoke,” Brown said.

On the TV show, Anna gets to work with an international rock star named Adam Lewis. When she arrives on set, Anna believes that Adam just might be the guy she has been dreaming about.

“Anna is not the only one who’s dreaming, there are other people too,” Brown said.

Brown says she wanted to write something serial in nature. “Gold Manor Ghost House” will be the first book in a series.

“In some ways, I see ‘Gold Manor Ghost House’ as the trunk of the story; it sets up and then I see it going in different directions,” Brown said.

The book is available now in paperback at The Looking Glass located in downtown Martin; it is also available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble. It is available in e-book form through Amazon.  Brown says it should be available at the UTM bookstore sometime in the near future.

“It is a fun, fast read and I hope you enjoy it,” Brown said.
