DC vs. Marvel: The fight everyone wins

There is always a trend with what’s being made in the movies, and recently it’s superhero movies. The main ones being made are the famous heroes from the DC and Marvel universes.

These heroes have been around for decades and are still very popular among the masses. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League are the main heroes for DC. Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the other members of The Avengers are the icons for Marvel. It may seem that movies for both sides are very sporadic, but it is actually quite the contrary.

Marvel actually has a three-phase plan to releasing its movies. It is currently in the middle of phase two. Phase one included the movies Iron Man 1 and 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and finally, The Avengers.

Phase two has already begun and has been doing great so far with the current movies being Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Upcoming movies in phase two include Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Phase three has already been casted for some of the movies and will most likely begin filming as soon as the rest are casted. Marvel even has television shows and privatized series in its plans. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already begun on ABC with great reviews so far, and there are future plans for four different Netflix series in motion, involving Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

Marvel has planned exactly what they want to accomplish, down to the tittle above the ‘i’ in the word ‘movie.’

Mark Harris, a senior Computer Science major, is excited about how well Marvel is connecting all of their current productions.

“I’m very satisfied with how Marvel has tied their movies together so far. Especially how the decisions from Captain America 2 has affected the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show. Now they are doing Ant Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, which will introduce plenty of new characters to keep their cinematic universe fresh. They have also announced that they want to add Black Panther, Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver. They have got plenty of momentum right now and are taking over the cinematic universe,” said Harris.

DC, when compared to Marvel, appears to have no plan, but that may not be true. Man of Steel was actually the unforeseen beginning of DC’s future plans.

Everyone has already heard about the casting of Ben Affleck as the new Batman in the upcoming, un-officially named movie, Batman vs Superman, but some people may not have heard that Wonder Woman will be making an appearance in the same movie and will be played by Gal Gadot, who is known from the The Fast and The Furious series.

This one movie will reboot the well-known character of Batman, reprise the role of Superman and introduce the brand new character of Wonder Woman. This isn’t the only thing that DC already has in the works and is planning for the future.

The hit TV show Arrow on The CW is very closely based on the comic book hero, The Green Arrow, and has been scoring high ratings while finishing up its second season. DC is also finishing up filming the first season of the upcoming show The Flash. Both The Green Arrow and The Flash are some of the founding members of the Justice League in the DC universe.

DC has already expressed its passion about aiming towards a Justice League movie, and it seems it will come to fruition sooner rather than later.

Jamye Freeman, a senior Agriculture Communications major, is an avid comic book reader. He is excited about the upcoming DC releases.

“With Marvel releasing such great movies so far, I am really excited to see what DC has to offer in the near future,” said Freeman.

Reid Barker, a junior Biology major who is primarily a DC fan, explains his nervousness over the hype of superhero movies recently.

“Disney is about to make a huge profit with all its summer movies, but too many companies have the rights to DC’s stuff for anything to really pan out. Plus they’re getting too gritty and forgetting to pander to families,” said Barker.

There are characters of both main teams that may never see the silver screen or share the screen for various reasons.

Spider-Man for Marvel is one that originally was an Avenger but won’t be seen in any of the Marvel movies soon. The rights of Spider-Man are actually owned by Sony, and they aren’t giving it up anytime soon.

A DC team member who most likely will never be seen in movies is Aquaman, because everyone already seems to think that he is a useless hero that just can talk to fish, even though that is the least of his powers.

There have been a lot of superhero movies that have been made so far, and it doesn’t seem that it is going to end anytime soon. Comic book readers may have a favorite between DC and Marvel, and there may be a lot of people who don’t know much about these comic book heroes other than what they have seen in the movies. The one thing that can be agreed upon by a lot of people is that both sides are doing great with their movie decisions.
