Theatre honor society to host Improv Night

On April 26, the Rho Gamma cast of Alpha Psi Omega will host a comedy Improv Night at 7 in the Little Theatre of the Fine Arts building at UTM.

Tickets will be $3, with all proceeds going to the Martin Housing Authority. Attendees are welcome to donate a larger amount if so desired.

The cast will include Cody Jarman, a junior Theatre and English double major; Dillon Davis, a junior Theatre major;  Kayla Ballard, a UTM Communications alumna; Madilyn Peay, a junior English and Natural Resources double major and Jonathan York, a freshman Secondary Education English major.

The show is open to students and non-students alike and will be appropriate for all ages.

Jarman, the event coordinator of Improv Night, said that he wants APO to focus its philanthropic efforts on helping the Martin community, and that helping the Martin Housing Authority would benefit the people of Martin, especially children.

“I called up Brian Harris about our devoting a night of improv comedy to helping them raise money for their work renovating the old Martin Middle School. He was immediately on board,” Jarman said.

Although the show is meant to raise money for the middle school renovations, Jarman said that he is confident that the show itself will be worth the price of admission.

“I think we have a group of really intelligent, quick-witted performers. They each bring their own unique charm and make a strong ensemble,” Jarman said.

Jarman says that, at the end of the day, the APO cast and everyone involved in Improv Night is a performer, and that their goal is also to entertain.

“This event is designed for people of all ages to let loose and enjoy some comedy. It’s meant to make people comfortable and happy, and see to it that a good cause is furthered,” Jarman said.

For non-APO participants, this event will also provide points for future induction into APO. Davis, a potential candidate for induction, said he is glad to be earning APO points while doing something he is particularly fond of.

“I love comedy so much, especially improv, and to get to share my passion with an audience for charity, that’s something worth doing,” Davis said.
