What’s popular and what’s not in Spring Fashion?

Fashion has been internalized heavily in society over the years. Different trends have come and gone while some have maintained longevity. When scrolling through the popular social platform, TikTok, you can observe various selections of fashion aesthetics among young adults ranging from Y2K, streetwear, alternative, coquette and the list goes on. As we approach spring, warm breezes and May showers will come, you are probably wondering what is the appropriate attire to wear. Well, you are in luck, as The Pacer has curated a guide on popular fashion trends for spring this year along with some that are outdated.

First, let’s start with what is in:

Jorts:

Jorts, when jeans and shorts had a baby, were a staple in the 90s (kudos to Adam Sandler and Avril Lavigne), and now they are making a big comeback in todayā€™s fashion. You can pair them with a vintage baby tee or graphic tee and high top sneakers along with accessories such as a belt or belly chains.

New Balance:

New Balance were the casual ā€˜dad shoe,ā€™ but now almost everyone has a pair and could be in competition with another popular shoe brand, Nike, as the two have some similarities in style.

Camis and Baggy Jeans:

The ultimate outfit combination that is widely worn among young adults. It is occasionally paired with a light jacket.

Jerseys:

The fashion of the 2000s shall never be forgotten as sport jerseys are racking up sales this year. Wearing jerseys as an everyday clothing piece became popular in the 2000s with notable rappers like Nelly and Jay-Z trendsetting it. It also very versatile as it can be worn as a dress.

Maxi Skirts:

Maxi skirts flow with the earthy aesthetics of spring so well. If you are not a big fan on skirts, however, fitted dresses is another go-to.

Fur Boots (or Moon Boots):

It’s never too cold to rock fur boots that the queen herself, Snooki, capitalized off of during her time on the hit MTV show, Jersey Shore. The prominent ‘Moon Boots’ were first used in skiing, however, TikTok influencer Aliyah Interlude made it widely popular in the Y2K fashion scene.

Layering Accessories:

Since temperatures are rising, layering clothing isn’t the best option. However stacking accessories, such as necklaces and bracelets, is such a cool, expressive means of dressing. Additionally, wearing rings (without the commitment, of course) is now a big thing as well.

Now, let’s explore what is out (please leave these in the rearview of 2023):

Lululemon:

This may be controversial for most. These leggings were cute to wear for a minute, but the hype has died down, sadly.

Yeezys:

To be frank, these shoes were disconnected due to a fallout between Kanye West and Adidas back in late 2022, yet people are still wearing them till this day.

Ruffles and Tassels:

These never belonged on clothing in the first place. Yes, from afar, it does look classy and professional, especially to formal events, but this a piece of clothing, not a decoration prop.

Beanies with the stretched out logo:

TikTok Shop is definitely to blame for the creation of this, from what is shown. It’s a unique form of how beanies look, but not in reality. To each to their own.

Skinny Jeans:

Skinny jeans have declined over the years, but have been replaced by low rise jeans, which is another Y2K staple piece that is making big impact on today’s fashion culture.

Now you are hopefully up to date on the latest fashion trends to ensure your spring is fashionable. Always remember to dress for you: as comfortably and confidently as possible!
