After a hard a fought battle, UT Martin Skyhawks womens basketball loses their third straight, this time to the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks 62-52

In the first quarter, the Skyhawks started with some strong defense that would eventually turn to offense. Ending the first quarter 50% from the field and 3-of-5 from the perimeter. The score after one was 18-15 in the favor of the Skyhawks.

The second quarter would mark the decline of the Skyhawks. This time around they shot 28.6% from the field. They also allowed the Redhawks to put up 18 shots of which they’d make seven. Although the Skyhawks allowed 19 second quarter points, they did finish the quarter on a 7-0 run to make the score at half 34-28 Redhawks.

During the third things got chippy. After redshirt junior guard Kenley McCarn attempted to rip the ball away from Redhawks graduate forward Raissa Nsabua, an argument broke out on the court which kept tensions high all game. The Skyhawks would still struggle to score this quarter and the Redhawks retained the lead.

As the fourth quarter came, the Skyhawks would attempt to rally but would not have enough as they continue to drop in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) rankings.

Despite a loss the Skyhawks still had a solid game on the defensive side of things.

“We knew we had to stop the three and we didn’t at times, but you got to give SEMO credit they kicked it out and had kids make threes and we know they have prolific three point shooters despite what we had on defense.” Said Assistant Coach Shane Sisco. “Our biggest problem, especially in the first quarter, was our inability to rebound, once you get stops you need to be able to get rebounds.”

The leading scorer for the Skyhawks was McCarn with 18 points, three assists and two rebounds. Following was sophomore forward Zy Thompson with a double-double on the night that consisted of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Thompson also added three steals and three assists.

Next up for the Skyhawks is OVC foe Little Rock Trojans on Thursday Feb. 19, 2026 at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. The last matchup between these two went in favor of the Trojans 68-53, in a game where UT Martin was outscored in all four quarters and Thompson had 13 points and five rebounds in just 19 minutes, but it was not enough for the Skyhawks.

The leading scorer for the Skyhawks is McCarn with 16.0 points per game (PPG) and 5.1 rebounds per game (RPG). Following her is Thompson with 11.2 PPG and 6.2 RPG.
