After poor offense and defense in the first half, the UT Martin Skyhawks women’s basketball team could not rally to grab a win.

In the first quarter, the Skyhawks could not find an offensive rhythm, going 4-of-11 from the field and finding no chances at the free throw line. The Skyhawks allowed the Southern Indiana University Edwardsville (SIUE) Cougars 17 points with the score after one being 17-9.

In the second, the Skyhawks had an almost repeat quarter this time, only finding five points, going 2-of-11 from the field and yet again allowing 17 points. The score at half was 34-14 in favor of the Cougars.

To begin the third, the Skyhawks were able to move the ball and find better looks as they then put up 23 points. After being able to finally outscore the Cougars, they put up 19 of their own.

The fourth quarter is when the Skyhawks would have a little promise. Starting the quarter UT Martin was able to hold SIUE scoreless with five minutes remaining. Before the Cougars scored, the Skyhawks were able to go on a 10-0 run. Although the story of the game was the turnovers. The Skyhawks turned the ball over 18 times, to the Cougars 13, with three of the 18 being just after the 10-0 run. This was all the Skyhawks could cash as the final buzzer sounded and the final score was 62-52 Cougars.

The Leading scorer for the Skyhawks was redshirt junior guard Kenley McCarn with 15 points. McCarn also added four rebounds, three steals and two assist. Following McCarn was freshman guard Sidni Middleton with 13 points, adding three rebounds and one assist.

Another key factor in the loss for UT Martin was the rebounds. The Skyhawks were out-rebounded 37-28, grabbing 23 defensive rebounds and five offensive rebounds to the Cougars 25 defensive rebounds to 11 offensive rebounds.

The Skyhawks also had a higher shooting percentage, despite losing going 20-of-49 at 40.8% with Cougars going 23-of-59 at 39%

The Skyhawks now return home to host the Ohio Valley Conference rival, Southeast Missouri State Redhawks at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Tuesday Feb. 17, 2026. In the last matchup the Skyhawk won 67-56, led by junior forward Norah Clark with 16 points and three rebounds.

The leading scorer for the Skyhawks is McCarn averaging 15.9 points per game (PPG) with sophomore forward Zy Thompson following with 11.0 PPG. Leading in rebounds is Thompson with 6.0 per game (RPG) with McCarn following at 5.2 RPG.
