When thinking about some of the most influential bands of all time, it would be wise to consider the groups hailing from across the pond.
British bands are usually considered to be the best to ever do it. Groups like Queen, King Crimson and Radiohead have left an everlasting impression on the music industry and popular culture as a whole. Even today, British bands continue to change the game. This is especially the case with the fast-rising group of stars known as The Last Dinner Party.
The Last Dinner Party, or TLDP, is an all-female quintet baroque rock band that formed in London in 2021. Having been the recipients of the 2024 BRITs Rising Star award, TLDP is currently considered to be the fastest rising band in Britain. Although they’re relatively new, they’ve already topped the UK charts with their debut album “Prelude to Ecstasy.” It would seem TLDP is destined for greatness in the near future.
Before they could achieve this greatness, however, they had to form. The idea for the band began in 2018 when lead vocalist Abigail Morris, rhythm guitarist Lizzie Mayland and lead bassist Georgia Davies met during orientation at King’s College London. The trio began attending gigs at The Windmill venue in Brixton, London, taking inspiration from the bands that performed there.
During their formative period, they used the name “the Dinner Party”. The band stated that the idea for the name was inspired by the idea of a “huge debauched dinner party where people came together to celebrate with a hedonistic banquet.” After gaining lead guitarist Emily Roberts and keyboardist Aurora Nishevci, the band was fully complete.
Unfortunately, the band struggled to get their boots on the ground due to the COVID-19 pandemic ruining any chances they had for rehearsing, let alone performing. In Nov. 2021, they had their first gig at The George in London. After this and signing with the Q Prime manager group, they began improving their sound and gaining traction with audiences.
On Feb. 2, 2024, after signing with Island Records the previous year and now going by “The Last Dinner Party,” TLDP released their inaugural studio album titled “Prelude to Ecstasy.” The album leaped to the top of the UK Albums Chart, debuting at number one. In addition to this, it was also the biggest first-week selling debut album in over nine years. This drove a massive boost in their popularity, allowing them to remain in the mainstream ever since.
The last large project that the group undertook was their second studio album, “From the Pyre.” The album was released in mid-October of 2025. Since Mar. 2026, they have been touring across North America. With their careers far from over, The Last Dinner Party has years of success ahead of them.
