UFC 327: What is next for the Light-Heavyweight division

Cub Swanson celebrates the final win of his UFC career.

UFC 327 took place on April 11, 2026, at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. Featured 12 fights, three on early prelims, four on prelims, and five on the main card.

There were a total of five decisions, three KO/TKO and three submissions, along with one draw. However, the decisions were arguably the best fights on the card.

The real question is “What’s Next?”

Early Prelims:

Radtke  def. Prado via decision

Padilla vs. Medros ended in a draw

Luque def. Gastelum via. Submission

Kelvin Gastelum is a true shell of himself. Once praised as the gatekeeper for the top five of the middleweight division. His struggles with making weight, along with not being at the top of his game anymore, have led him to a weird intersection in his career. He is not big enough to move up a weight class, but he can not keep going too hard with weight cuts and camps in hopes of staying in the UFC. Gastelum should aim for one final retirement fight and make it against an upcoming wrestler.

Vicente Luque gets his first win in almost a year and gets a really good finish with his rear-naked choke. However, where does he go from here? He is way past his prime, along with having taken too much damage throughout his career, to face a true striker. Luque should target another older wrestler and aim to finish his UFC career with a win.

Prelims:

Gamrot def. Ribovics via submission

Holland def. Brown via decision

Suarez def. Godinez via submission

Loopy Godinez has had a decent career since joining the UFC, but when it comes to fighting inside the top five, she always comes up short. If Godinez wants to continue to push for a title in the strawweight division, she will need to prove herself against a lower-ranked fighter.

Tatiana Suarez continues to prove that she is a step above the competition when it comes to the other women in the division. She has shown strong striking ability with an impressive submission game, which she is not afraid to use. She has earned herself another title shot, or at the very least, a number one contender fight.

Pico def. Pitbull via decision

Patrício Pitbull was one of the most hyped fighters outside of the UFC during his time in Bellator. Winning 24 fights, a promotion record, winning the featherweight title three times and being a one-time lightweight champion. He was at the peak of his career, but since joining the UFC, he has been 1-2 in his fights. At 38 years old, it is time for Pitbull to hang up his gloves and call it a career.

Aaron Pico is very similar to Pitbull; both were very dominant outside of the UFC and eventually made their way over to the promotion. Pico would lose his UFC debut against Lerone Murphy, which has aged pretty well due to Murphy getting a number-one contender fight. At 29 years old, Pico still has time to build his name in the UFC, but with how competitive the featherweight division is, a title belt does not seem to be in his future. The next step for Pico should be a top 15 guy in the rankings, and a dominating victory to prove he belongs with the best of the best.

Swanson def.  Landwehr via KO/TKO

Nate Landwehr has lost his last three fights by KO/TKO, and his back is truly against the wall. The fight against Swanson should have been a much easier contest, but Landwher has shown that he is not UFC material. Landwehr should return to the regional scene and try to build up his name once again.

At the end of the match, Cub Swanson put his gloves on the canvas and called it a career.

Reyes def. Walker via Decision

Johnny Walker was once considered a top-five fighter in the UFC light heavyweight division, but in recent years, he has begun to look like a shell of himself.  One thing Walker had going for himself was the ability to put on an interesting fight, but after this bout, that is truly in question. Walker should be aiming to keep his name in the top 15 of the ranking with a win over a new fighter, such as recently signed Gable Steveson.

Dominick Reyes is a fan favorite and has been on a recent career resurgence. He lost against Ulberg, who looks a lot better now that he is champion of the division, but a win over Walker does not earn Reyes a title shot. Reyes is a fight away from being an undeniable title contender, and a mat match-up against Jamahal Hill or Khalil Rountree Jr. could get him into conversations.

Hokit def. Blaydes via decision

Curtis Blaydes has been the gatekeeper for the top eight of the heavyweight division for as long as many fans can remember. He has never been good enough to win the title, but he is always a dangerous fight for whoever he is against. After this fight, Blaydes will have to fight down in the rankings and will be given a newly ranked fighter, such as Tyrell Fortune.

Josh Hokit has exploded in popularity in recent months, getting three wins in the span of five months, but his shenanigans inside and out of the ring have helped him become a huge internet personality. UFC President Dana White went live on Instagram on Saturday night during the main card to announce Josh Hokit vs. Derrick Lewis on the UFC White House card. A win over a popular name like Lewis would do numbers for Hokit, but it is not great for his aspiration of becoming a UFC champion. Hokit is now ranked at number five, but Lewis is number eight. If Hokit wins, he will have only beaten someone who is ranked below him. If he loses, that will hurt the hype train he has been building for himself.

Costa def. Murzakanov via KO/TKO

Azamat Murzakanov is a star in the making within the UFC. Coming off his first career loss against a veteran in Costa. He has room to improve with his striking and defending strikes, but if he takes this loss and bounces back, he could be fighting for a title soon. In terms of next opponents, Murzakanov should aim for a fight against Volkan Oezdemir, a proven name who has a history in the division and is coming off a decent win.

Paulo Costa officially moved up to light heavyweight and got a win over one of the biggest prospects in the division. Skyrocking into the top seven of the division. Costa put on a great performance against Murzakanov and looked at home in this division. His name is now in the title conversations, and he needs to capitalize with a strong win over Jiří Procházka or Jan Błachowicz.

Ulberg def. Prochazka via KO/TKO

Jiří Procházka had this fight in his hands. Early during the first round, Ulberg became injured and would not have been able to make it back to the center of the ring after the round. However, in many fights, Prochazka becomes his own enemy by living by a Samurai honor code. His last three title fights have all ended with him being KO’d, but when it comes to regular fights, he looks unstoppable. His commitment to taking a hit to give a hit will only get him so far against a stack of division power punches. He will have to fight his way down in the rankings if he hopes to fight for a title again. Paulo Costa winning this weekend puts Procházka in his direct sight and a possible match-up down the line.

Carlos Ulberg did the impossible, getting a KO victory while being hobbled on one leg. Early in the first round, Ulberg would plant his foot and try to lunge forward to counter Procházka, but his knee would pop, and for the rest of the round, he would be sluggish around the octagon. Procházka would back him into the cage and signal for them to “throw down.” Ulberg would counter Procházka with a left, putting him down. He would follow up with ground and pound, getting the KO victory. Ulberg is the newly crowned champion; he has a long road of recovery ahead of him with the knee injury. We do not know the exact injury, but the form replays the timeline looks for him to be out for the rest of the year, if not longer. The UFC will make an interim fight in the near future, and that will be Ulberg’s return fight.
