Review: ‘This Is The End’ turns out amusing, yet graphic

When previews for “This Is The End” began to appear, many thought that it would be the funniest movie ever. However, after seeing the film, I can say that there are a lot of funny moments, but if you don’t enjoy watching graphic, gory scenes, this movie might not be the one for you to see.

The movie started off just as I expected it to. Every shot showed another comedian or famous actor. The dialogue and awkward moments had me rolling with laughter. As soon as the “apocalypse” begins however, one of the first things you see is Michael Cera impaled on a light pole.

From this point on, the film progresses into more graphic scenes mixed with humor that left me wondering if I should be laughing or screaming.

It seems to me, that one of the main points of the filmmakers was to push the limits as far as they could. And that’s exactly what they did.

From fighting over a candy bar to fighting demons, this movie was full of surprises. It was more religious than I expected it to be, and it was definitely more violent than I anticipated.

My opinion of the film might not be the general consensus, however. The friends who went to the movie with me enjoyed it a lot, describing it as “Saw,” with a sense of humor.

This movie definitely will make you laugh a lot if you can get through the blood and carnage. I think if you know what to expect you’ll enjoy it a lot more than going into it thinking that it is just a comedy. Had I known to anticipate the gore, I might have liked it better.

If you do go see the film, be sure to stay until the end. The final scene has a surprising cameo from a 90s boy band that definitely makes up for the rest of the movie.
