New Avicii album released posthumously

A new album by Avicii will be released posthumously this summer.

Universal Music announced that Avicii’s new album, Tim, will debut in June, according to CBS News. The first single from the album, “SOS”, was released on April 10 and features American musician Aloe Blacc.

Tim Bergling, a Swedish DJ, remixer and record producer known professionally as Avicii, passed away on April 20, 2018, at the age of 28.

“He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music,” Avicii’s team said in a statement. “Since Tim’s passing, the family decided not to keep the music locked away – instead they wanted to share it with his fans all around the world,”

According to The New York Times, Avicii’s team said that the songs that will appear on Tim were “75 to 80 percent done” by the time the artist passed. Other Avicii collaborators, including Albin Nedler Kristoffer Fogelmark, who contributed to “SOS”, helped complete the album, alongside of notes left by Avicii.

Before his death in 2018, Avicii had two studio albums to his name: True (2013) and Stories (2015).

Avicii suffered from anxiety, depression and heavy alcoholism according to Forbes.

In light of the one year anniversary of Avicii’s passing, the surviving members of his family will launch a mental health-focused foundation, according to People. The foundation will also focus on climate issues, nature conservation and endangered species.

“Tim wanted to make a difference — starting a foundation in his name is our way to honor his memory and continue to act in his spirit,” the family said in a statement.

The foundation is slated to launch on April 20, 2019.
