Is the Fall or Spring semester better?

A debated question that has many college students in a chokehold is: Which semester is better, the fall or spring?

There are many pros and cons to each semester, which makes a student determine which is superior.

The fall semester is the first semester back from summer. Students are ready for the year to begin and are rested from summer break. The spring semester is when most students come back after the fall semester, and many don’t feel fully refreshed when coming back, and that might be due to holiday stress or constant work.

The fall semester is full of holidays, football and feel-good weather, which I believe is one of the many reasons some students may think the it flies by. UT Martin and the City of Martin do many things during this semester. A few of my personal favorite events are the Soybean Festival, SkyhawkPalooza and the Cookie Cram that happens at the end of the semester.

During the spring semester, some students feel that it doesn’t fly by because of the the lack of events. Unlike the fall semester, the spring semester doesn’t have many events. One of my favorite events to attend during the spring semester is the UT Martin Easter egg hunt, typically hosted by housing.

While both semesters receive the same amount of days off to begin with, the spring semester may receive more if there is snow and ice.

I personally think both semesters fly by fast. The fall semester has the benefit of having many activities and several holidays, while the spring semester has the benefit of snow and ice (if we’re lucky). If the semester feels like it is dragging on, then get involved. Go to a school event, join a club or do some volunteer work, and I can assure you that it will make the semester go by way faster.
