The question of when it is right to decorate for Christmas has been debated a million times, and really, there is no right or wrong answer.
Your neighbor may already have their inflatable Santa up, even though Halloween is about a week away.
Christmas is a time of year that many people celebrate. Christians celebrate it for Jesus’ birthday, and some people celebrate it because it’s fun and brings them joy. Christmas is a time for giving and spreading happiness. It brings magic to children and overall joy to everyone.
Stores start setting up Christmas decorations at the beginning of October. Some even start in September. This doesn’t mean people start decorating for Christmas right away, but it’s definitely on their minds.
There are many different times when people start decorating for Christmas. The first type of person leaves their decorations up all year long. Some don’t do this intentionally; they just forget or get busy. For others, it brings them joy. Some people like to have their decorations up 24/7, 365 days a year.
The second type of person decorates on Oct. 1. This is when the debate starts. People argue that it’s too early to decorate for Christmas because it overshadows Halloween. Others think it doesn’t matter and that people should do whatever makes them happy. Some skip Halloween entirely because they believe it to be demonic.
The next group decorates on Nov. 1. Many Americans argue that this overshadows Thanksgiving and that people should wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate.
Then there are those who decorate on Thanksgiving Day after eating their feast. Personally, after eating, I take a nap, so decorating for Christmas on Thanksgiving would be a big no for me, but a lot of people do it.
Many people believe that decorating for Christmas between the day after Thanksgiving and the first of December is the best time to decorate. All of the other holidays have passed, and it’s now time to let Christmas shine. There are people who decorate at other times of the year, but these are a few of the most common.
My favorite time to decorate is Nov. 1. I feel like having the decorations up only from late November to early December isn’t enough time. I love seeing the Christmas tree lit up and the town decorated. I think it’s truly one of the best times of the year, though also one of the most stressful.
The time you decorate is up to you. If it brings you joy to start in October or late November, then I say do it.
