In recent memory there have been many records or historic marks broken in the NBA. Records that seemed untouchable until as of recent.

Since the 2022-23 season we have seen a jump in historic performances with no signs of slowing down.

In the 2022-23 NBA Season, Lebron James surpassed fellow Los Angeles Lakers player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record of 38,387 on February 7, 2023, after a 38-point performance.

Things for James did not come to a halt. In the following season of 2023-24, James would become the first player to score 40,000 career points, on March 2, 2024.

This same season also marked another historic mark in NBA as James and his son Lebron James Jr. (Bronny) became the first father and son duo to play on the same team. They first stepped on the court together on October 6, 2024, in a preseason game against the Phoenix Suns and later in the regular season the two debuted together on October 22, 2024, against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

As great as James is, he is not the only player to make history that same season. One of the greatest point guards of all time, Golden State Warriors Steph Curry, became the first player to record seven or more threes in four consecutive games.

One unlikely player to also set a record during the 2023-24 season was Daniel Gafford. Gafford made 33 consecutive field goals–marking one of the most efficient scoring streaks ever recorded.

In the 2024-25 season, some similar names come up. James would continue one of the most prolific scoring careers. On March 4, 2025, James surpassed the 50,000 point mark (regular season and playoffs) and still counting. This same season Steph Curry would also continue adding his name in the history books, surpassing Michael Jordan for most 40-point games after age 30.

Now in the 2025–26 season, records continue to be shattered across the league with not just veterans but also rookies.

Early in the season V. J. Edgecombe would set the rookie scoring debut and put the league on notice dropping 34 points. This performance marked Edgecombe as an early rookie of the year favorite. Since this night Edgecombe has helped the Philadelphia 76ers make a quick jump from last seasons record of 24-58 to this season currently sitting at 38-32 looking for a spot in the Play-in.

Another rookie, Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg also made history this season becoming the youngest player ever to score 40 points in a game. Flagg, alongside edgecombe, has fans excited for future seasons while continuing to fight neck and neck against Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel for the first place ranking in the rookie of the year race.

This season Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo scored 83 in a game, although 83 points is not the most all time (Wilt Chamberlain 100) it is the second most all time. The record Adebayo was able to smash was the most free throws in a game with 43, breaking the previous record of 39 held by Dwight Howard.

One of, if not the most, impressive record that was recently broken is Consecutive games of 20+ points scored. Previously held by Wilt Chamberlain at 126 consecutive games, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander broke the record with 127 and counting, surpassing a mark that had stood for decades.

For legends like James and Curry, they try to continuing redefining longevity and greatness. Where young stars like Gilgeous-Alexander, Flagg and Edgecombe are pushing boundaries earlier in their careers. With all of this the NBA is in the midst of one of it’s most historic eras.
