Don’t text and plan

How in the world do you keep track of your life? How do you function with everything going on? How do you manage your time? How are you able to be so involved? These are questions I get asked pretty frequently.

So how do I manage all that life throws at me, especially during a pandemic? Well, I am organized and use a planner extensively. It doesn’t matter whether it’s an Erin Condren or one from Dollar Tree, a planner is so vital in your success. I use an inexpensive planner from Wal-Mart and it probably cost me about $8. For organization, I assign a different color pen for each activity. If everything is the same color pen, then there would be no way to differentiate and a greater possibility for something to get overlooked. Highlighting or checking items once they are completed allows me to move on and ensure I am using my time wisely throughout the day. A planner makes life so much easier and can even relieve stress.

I always have my planner on me, so I am able to refer to it when in question. Some may say, “I have my phone as a planner and I always have my phone on me.” To me, a phone can be very distracting. Just think about the endless notifications you receive a day. Now think about how many notifications you swipe away or delete without even thinking about it. I know I do. I have so many notifications, I can barely keep up with my phone most days.

Just like notifications, it is easy to get overwhelmed with your phone and let things slip. Don’t let important activities, projects or deadlines slip your mind! Grab your planner and write them down.

If it’s not in my planner, it’s not happening! Some may even think, “Oh I’ll remember that,” but it is so easy to forget, especially when you have a booked-full day. Studies also show that you are more likely to remember things when you write them down. So, I encourage you to write in your planner to keep track of this semester and this year!
