City of Martin, UTM campus affected by power outage

Update: As of 9:00 p.m., power has been restored on the UTM campus.

The Weakley County Municipal Electric System (WCMES) reported a large power outage affecting portions of Martin, Tennessee, and the University of Tennessee at Martin campus the evening of Sunday, Sept. 13.

As of 7:30 p.m., the WCMES Outage Map showed 2,000 outages across Weakley County. According to a post on the WCMES Facebook page around the same time, crews were working on site to restore power. By 8:30 p.m. the outage map showed roughly 1,000 outages, primary located in and around the UTM campus. Power was restored around 9 p.m.

On the UT Martin campus pedestrian crosswalks, street lights, and building lights were all out. Students were seen walking around campus with phone flashlights. University Street was also without power.

The UT Martin women’s soccer game against Southern Illinois was delayed during the outage. At the half the Salukis led 1-0. Gameplay resumed shortly after 9 p.m.

WCMES encourages people to check the WCMES Outage Map tool for outage locations and updates.
