Annual Festival Features Plenty of Fun

Activities

  • Sept. 1 – Minecraft Farming Challenge, hosted by the UTM College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences and Northwest Tennessee Entrepreneur Center; ages 10-17; $10 advance registration; 325 Gooch Hall, 8 a.m.-noon or 1-5 p.m., $100 cash prize
  • Sept. 1 – Tour of the Arts: Soybean Festival General Store, 10 a.m.; also 11 a.m. Sept. 3, 6 p.m. Sept. 4, 5 p.m. Sept. 5-6, 10 a.m. Sept. 7-8
  • Sept. 1 – Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, C.E. Weldon Library, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; children, teen, adult, and family divisions judged; winners and prizes will be awarded at 7 p.m. in Festival Park
  • Sept. 1 – Sixth annual Biodiesel Truck & Tractor Pull, Martin Recreation Complex, 7 p.m.
  • Sept. 1 – Movie Night: Avengers Infinity War, Oxford Street Stage, 8 p.m.; Inside Out, Virginia Weldon Park, 8 p.m.
  • Sept. 2 – “Guitar As Art” contest and exhibit, Fine Arts Gallery, exhibit opens at 2 p.m. and awards will be given at 3 p.m.; exhibit open to the public Tuesday, Sept. 4, through Friday, Sept. 21, 1-5 p.m.
  • Sept. 3 – Froggyland’s Got Talent, Oxford Street Stage, 7 p.m., $1,000 grand prize
  • Sept. 4-7 – Friends of the Library Used Book Sale, inside C.E. Weldon Library, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 4-7 – History of Farming Exhibit, C.E. Weldon Library, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 4 – Soybean Festival Parade; begins on University Street in front of Hardy M. Graham Stadium; 6:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 4 – “Tour of the Town” family carriage rides, begin at Festival General Store, 7:30 p.m.; ages 12 and under free, $5 per adult; two children per paid adult.
  • Sept. 4 – “The Soybean Moonlight Ride” romantic rides for adults along the Brian Brown Memorial Greenway that begin near Lindell Street and Southern Milling, 7:30 p.m., $5 per person
  • Sept. 6-8 – City merchants sidewalk sale, begins 10 a.m.
  • Sept. 6-8 – Live Shark Encounter, Savant Building parking lot, corner of University and Lindell streets; 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sept. 6-7; 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 8
  • Sept. 6 – Cancer Crash Car Bash, Historic Downtown Martin, 5-11 p.m.
  • Sept. 7-8 – Disc Golf Tournament, Harrison Road Complex, 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday
  • Sept. 7-8 – The Gap Party at the Opera House, 9 p.m.
  • Sept. 7-8 – Celebration in Cadillac’s parking lot, 10 p.m. till 2 a.m. Friday-Saturday and Saturday-Sunday
  • Sept. 8 – Kiwanis Club 5K Road Race/Walk and 1K Kid Run, Westview High School back parking lot, 7:30 a.m.
  • Sept. 8 – MTD Car and Bike Show, First Baptist Church parking lot, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Sept. 8 – Weakley County Animal Clinic Pet Show and Competition, Virginia Weldon Park; registration at 3 p.m., show begins at 4 p.m.
  • Sept. 8 – Silver Anniversary Fireworks Show, downtown Martin, 9 p.m.

Other concerts and general information

  • Sept. 1 – The Martin Community Band, Festival Park Amphitheater, 7 p.m.
  • Sept. 7 – The Hogslop String Band, Virginia Weldon Park, 5 p.m.
  • Sept. 8 – Break for Bach, featuring pianist Dr. Elaine Harriss, professor of Music, and violinist Beth Ostenson; C.E. Weldon Public Library (enter on east side); 10-11 a.m.

All of the concerts listed in the graphic above will be held at the Festival Park Amphitheater. Concert ticket prices vary, and tickets can be purchased in advance at tnsoybeanfestival.org or at the gate, space permitting, beginning at 5 p.m. the day of the show.

Times also vary.  The Larry Gatlin concert begins at 7 p.m.; the Frankie Valli tribute begins at 8 p.m.; the Jackson Symphony concert begins at 7:30 p.m.; Switchfoot begins at 8 p.m.; 38 Special and Foreigner begin at 8 p.m.; and Gretchen Wilson/Big & Rich with Cowboy Troy begins at 7 p.m.

The midway, with rides and concessions, will be open from 5-11 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Food

  • Sept. 1 – Home Grown Martin Farmers Market, downtown Martin, 8 a.m. – noon; also 3-5 p.m. Sept. 3, 8-11 a.m. Sept. 8
  • Sept. 1 – Tailgate party, Virginia Weldon Park; UT Vols vs. West Virginia with kickoff at 2:30 p.m.; UTM Skyhawks vs. Missouri with kickoff at 3 p.m.; games will be shown on large video screens; concessions available; bring tents and lawn chairs
  • Sept. 5 – Crossroads Luncheon: A Celebration of Civic Organizations; Boling University Center, Duncan Ballroom; noon-1 p.m.; RSVP to Steve Vantrease at svantrease@utfi.org
  • Sept. 5 – Faith & Community Night Picnic and Trivia, Virginia Weldon Park; picnic begins at 5 p.m. and trivia begins at 6:15 p.m.
  • Sept. 7 – Chicken Crazy, Hog Wild BBQ Cook-off, Virginia Weldon Park, all day; free community meal at 5 p.m.
  • Sept. 7 – Sammie’s Bacon Eating Contest, Virginia Weldon Park Stage, 6:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 8 – American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary Pancake Breakfast, American Legion Post, 221 Central St., 7:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Sept. 9 – Sodexo Sunday Brunch; Boling University Center, Skyhawk Dining Hall; 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
