Since the UT Martin Skyhawks women’s basketball team won at home against the Fisk Bulldogs, they have added two losses to their record.
UT Martin now holds a 1-4 record, with losses to the New Mexico Lobos 77-45 and the UTEP Miners 64-60.
Against New Mexico, UT Martin trailed by only 5 points at the end of the first, but following that, New Mexico went on a 9-0 run. This led to great defense from New Mexico, which was too much for UT Martin. Two Skyhawks found themselves with five personal fouls and 21 total fouls for the team, while New Mexico at only 11 total fouls. Red-shirt junior guard Kenley McCarn led the way for UT Martin with 11 points and grabbed four rebounds. McCarn also led UT Martin in turnovers with four.
UT Martin fell just short to UTEP in an overtime thriller. At the end of regulation, the score was tied at 52-52. Throughout overtime, the lead went back and forth until UT Martin would take a one-point lead. UTEP would then drive and hit a three-pointer, thanks to two offensive rebounds. UT Martin then turned the ball over and gave up two free throws to lose 64-60.
McCarn and redshirt sophomore forward Zy Thompson led the way for UT Martin, both at 15 points in the close loss. Thompson would also add six total rebounds and McCarn added five.
Through five games for UT Martin, McCarn paves the way in points and assists with averages of 13.6 points per game and 3.4 assists per game. Junior guard Brittani Wells leads the way in rebounds, grabbing 4.8 per game.
Next for UT Martin are the Oakwood Ambassadors at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Sunday Nov. 30, 2025, where UT Martin enters as heavy favorites.
