UTM football loses two players before season begins; one with broken jaw, one arrested for assault
Two recent transfers for the UTM football team were missing from the season opener against Oklahoma State on Thursday, both of whom were expected to make substantial contributions to the Skyhawks this year. Junior Wide Receiver (WR) Keyshaun Pipkin is out with an injury and junior Linebacker (LB) Corey Yeoman has been removed from the team.
Pipkin — a redshirt junior who transferred from Northern Illinois University this offseason — is out indefinitely with a broken jaw he sustained earlier this week, according to UTM Athletics. The 6’2, 205 pound WR from Indianapolis, Indiana, was expected to play a major role in the Skyhawks passing game this year, but will now have to watch from the sidelines.
Pipkin is expected to miss at least the first half of the season and will have surgery on his jaw in the coming days.
Yeoman — a redshirt junior who transferred from Hampton University this offseason — is no longer with the team following his recent arrest. Yeoman was booked and charged with aggravated assault shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug 24, according to the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office. He was later released on bail. Yeoman’s information has been removed from the UTM football roster on the Athletics website.
Yeoman was expected to fill a hole in the Skyhawk’s defense left by three senior linebackers. A 6’3, 230-pound LB from Atlantic City, New Jersey, UTM was Yeoman’s third team since departing Atlantic City with prior stops at Temple and Hampton University.
Additional details regarding the circumstances of Yeoman’s arrest aren’t yet available.
The loss of both players now means higher expectations for younger players who will have to step up if the Skyhawks want to find as much success as they have in previous seasons; looking to repeat a fourth straight OVC-Big South title and return to the FCS playoffs for the third time in the past four years.
