The University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawks women’s basketball grabbed their third straight win on the road against the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) rival Southeast Missouri State Redhawks.
UT Martin started off slow, shooting a rough 1-of-9 from the field in the first quarter. The Skyhawks would hold it close to end the first quarter down one with a score of 13-12.
In the second, the Skyhawks would put the Redhawks on notice, outscoring them 21-7. The Skyhawks would also pick up their shooting percentages, going 9-of-13 from the field, and would also out-rebound and out-assist the Redhawks in the second to close out the first half. The score at half was 33-20 in the Skyhawks favor.
The Skyhawks would struggle again going into the third, going 4-of-12 from the field and being outscored 21-10. They would also be out-rebounded 7-5.
Leading into the fourth, the Skyhawks would hold a 44-41 lead. The Skyhawks then finished out the game shooting 7-of-12 from the field and held off the Redhawks to emerge victorious, winning 67-56.
The Skyhawks had four players score in the double-digits. The four were led by junior forward Norah Clark with 16, redshirt junior guard Kenley McCarn with 12, sophomore forward Zy Thompson with 12 and freshman guard Sidni Middleton (5) with 12.
Despite winning, the Skyhawks were out-rebounded 29-27 and struggled to grab offensive rebounds, with only one grabbed by Thompson. They would also be out-assisted 9-7. The leading rebounders for the Skyhawks were a tie between Middleton and McCarn, who each grabbed six. Leading in assists was junior guard Brittani Wells with five.
The Skyhawks’ next game will be in Charleston, Illinois, as they take on the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Jan. 29 at 5:00 p.m.
