The UT Martin Skyhawks women’s basketball team continues its six-game home win streak after an 11-point deficit comeback over the SIUE Cougars.
What started off as a defensive game eventually turned into an offensive clinic. In the first quarter, both squads found themselves 5-of-22 from the field. After one, the score was 8-4 in UT Martin’s favor.
During the second quarter, UT Martin allowed 21 points and was down 25-21 at the break.
UT Martin would eventually be outscored in the third quarter as well, allowing 18 points and putting up just 14 of their own. Both teams shot their best during the third quarter, where UT Martin shot 46.67% from the field while the SIUE shot an impressive 70%.
In the fourth, UT Martin found themselves down 43-35. After an impressive scoring run from SIUE in the third, they then struggled in the fourth quarter, shooting 29.41% from the field. UT Martin then outscored SIUE 29-12 in the fourth, with 15 free-throw attempts to the Cougars’ zero and ending on a run of 14-2. The final score was 64-55, and UT Martin not only continued their six-game home win streak but also extended their win streak over SIUE to six straight.
Redshirt sophomore forward Zy Thompson (12) tallied a double-double on the night with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The leading scorer for UT Martin was redshirt junior guard Kenley McCarn (44) with 15 points, along with nine rebounds, three assists and five steals.

Through 16 games, McCarn leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.7 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. Thompson leads in rebounds, averaging 6.7 per game along with 11.6 points per game.
Next up for UT Martin is the red-hot Lindenwood Lions, who are on a four-game win streak and sit 6-2 on the road. The Skyhawks look to break a two-year losing streak to the Lions and continue their home win streak at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Jan. 17, 2026.
