After a neck-and-neck game, redshirt junior guard Kenley McCarn and the UT Martin Skyhawks finished strong and grabbed the win, snapping the Ohio Valley Conference’s (OVC) then-No. 2 Morehead State Eagles’ six-game winning streak.

During the first quarter, the Skyhawks were able to outscore the Eagles 14-13.

During the second quarter, the Skyhawks shot their best of the night, with 7-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from the perimeter. Along with the efficient shooting, the Skyhawks outscored the Eagles 17-13. Ending the second quarter, the Skyhawks went on a 9-1 run. At halftime, the score was 31-26 in favor of UT Martin.

Leading into the third, the Skyhawks were up by five and yet again outscored the Eagles 19-18.

To finish the fourth, the Skyhawks scored 14, along with the Eagles’ 14. The Skyhawks out-rebounded the Eagles 28-26 while they out-assisted Morehead State 15-10 and ultimately won 64-58.

Alongside McCarn’s 20 points was junior guard Brittani Wells, who stepped up big for the Skyhawks with 17 points, four boards, two assists and two steals.

“Our point guard Brittani has come in, and I feel like we haven’t had as well of a point guard in the past years. So she has come in and really stepped up,” McCarn said.

The Skyhawks were also able to hold the Eagles to 38% shooting while shooting 52.1% from the field themselves. In a recent interview, McCarn also gave high praise to assistant coach Shane Sisco on his defensive mindset and how he has helped the defense improve from last season.

“From the get-go, he’s really hammered into us basic fundamental defense. we have also scouted more this year, and we tweak our defense per game depending on who we’re playing, and so I feel like those major changes from last year have helped us improve,” McCarn said.

Next up for the Skyhawks is the OVC No. 2 Lindenwood Lions on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, in St. Charles, Missouri, at Hyland Arena. The Lions are currently 18-7 with a conference record of 10-4, while the Skyhawks sit 13-10 with a conference record of 9-5 and look to continue their win streak.

McCarn leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game with 5.1 rebounds per game, followed by sophomore forward Zy Thompson with 10.7 points per game. Thompson also leads in rebounds with 5.8 boards per game. Wells leads in assists with 86 total, followed by McCarn with 55.
