UT Martin Department of Safety launches new app

UTM remains one of the safest universities in the state when compared with other four-year institutions of higher education. One of the primary missions of the UTM Department of Public Safety (DPS) is to provide a safe and orderly environment for students, faculty and community members to conduct their day-to-day business with minimal interruption.

The DPS has been looking for ways to improve and ensure that top-notch safety continues, recently announcing the launch of a free app called LiveSafe. This app serves as the mediator between the students and Public Safety with convenient access in the palm of your hands.

From your mobile device, you are able to share information with Public Safety involving suspicious activity, report an incident that has occurred and request emergency help. LiveSafe has to option to send information anonymously.

The app also has access to important resources, such as a map to find campus buildings and emergency locations and the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) latest COVID-19 updates. SafeWalk is another feature offered that allows your friends and family to virtually escort you to your intended destination and notifies them when you arrive.

LifeSafe can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. You must register by filling out a profile with your email and phone number. Then, select the UTM as the organization.

The DPS is on duty and accessible 24/7—365. They want to express the importance of developing a “security mindset.” Make safety and security issues part of your everyday planning by being aware of your surroundings, taking preventive measures, and locking up/keeping control of your property. If it is an emergency, dial 911!
