Top 10 must-haves in college to maintain your sanity

Going to college can be difficult in many ways, which is why having the right tools and accessories is crucial to ease stress and make it easier to focus on what’s important.

Though there are hundreds of things that would help hard situations in college, narrowing down the focus to your health, happiness and convenience can determine your success and willpower to ultimately achieve your degree.

In terms of health, reusable water bottles are extremely important tools to have in college for many reasons. Drinking enough water can prevent dehydration, remove toxins from the body and enhance mental clarity. Staying hydrated when studying late at night or waking up in the morning can also stimulate the mind and reduce drowsiness.

A bathroom scale is another item to consider to stay healthy. Many students tend to laugh about the “freshman 15” at some point, which is the stereotypical number of pounds students gain when living the college lifestyle. Overeating is the primary cause and an easy mistake, but being aware of your weight and sticking to a good diet is far more beneficial than “stress eating.”

Two more key things for college students’ health and subconscious include a first-aid kit and shower caddy. Possessing proper vitamins, medicines, bandages and other personal care products in a portable fashion can be tremendously valuable in the case of an unexpected accident or emergency. Shower caddies with daily utensils, shampoo and soap can also make trips to your personal or shared bathrooms cleaner and quicker.

Every college student has been in a situation where focus is a necessity. A convenient solution to minimize distractions is either noise-canceling earphones or headphones. Whether you’re focusing on homework, lectures, video conferences or just walking to class, the noise-canceling feature will create the perfect boundary between you and potential annoyances. Following the technological trend, owning a portable charger offers great convenience in the case of dead batteries on-the-go or when you’re far from home.

Living with roommates can be problematic, in which the most handy appliance students value is a mini refrigerator. These can have multiple uses as a nightstand, storage shelf for dry food or books, magnet holders and, of course, to safely store cold food and drinks inside.

As the common and more obvious items are listed toward the end, their importance remains high. Supplies for class and homework hold extreme value and are necessary in abundance for successful college students. These can include pencils, pens, erasers, flash cards and markers. Some students type notes on computers for faster writing, but physically writing information on flash cards and paper promotes better retention and memory.

Following the physical writing notion, carrying a planner with reminders, to-do lists and affirmation quotes is also a highly beneficial item all college students should take advantage of! Finally, dry erase boards can be hung in dorms as a great way to be reminded of due dates, exams and upcoming events. Remembering to check and update dry erase boards and planners daily will offer none other than greatness.

There are numerous things to consider buying for an easier student life, but bringing these 10 items will certainly provide great relief to anyone unprepared or unsure about the efficacy of each.
