Eevees and their evolutions, also known as eeveelutions, seem to have captured the interests of not only Pokémon fans but also fans from other fandoms and the general population.
Eeveelution fan art across online spaces is quite ubiquitous, coupled with cosplay, literature and even a whole Pokémon game surrounding the caretaking of an Eevee: Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
We will dive into the aesthetics of eeveelutions, which may have inspired this unique interest in Eevees.
There are two primary reasons why eeveelutions are so popular with fans; the most prominent being their appearance. Cuteness is an integral part of the aesthetics of eeveelutions, as for other Pokémon. Pikachu is a famous example.

The psychology of cuteness—the reason why humans are naturally drawn to cute things—can be explained by certain features, such as small noses, larger eyes and rounder faces, which summon caregiving, as explained by Dr. Michael S. Veldez.
“Cuteness encourages helpful behavior such as caring for others, helping and social affiliation,” Veldez said.
This part of our psychology ties into the appearance of Eevees and fans’ attachment to them: small noses, rounder heads and other features we find cute, typically in cats or dogs. Some eeveelutions, especially Flareon, have a lot of fluff on them, which adds to feelings of comfort and warmth.
The other reason eeveelutions are so popular is their unique variations based on their type. Did you know that Vaporeon is a water type? Flareon, a fire type; Glaceon, an ice type, and so on. These variations help create a dynamic that synergizes with art creation and self-expression.
Umbreon and Espeon, a dark type and psychic type, may convey a dark, emo or mysterious aesthetic or expression that may be attractive to some. This duo serves as a great juxtaposition between them and brighter eeveelutions such as Sylveon’s white, light blue and pink colors and ribbons, or the bright yellow and orange colors of Jolteon and Flareon.
