Taylor Swift released her new album, The Life of a Showgirl’ on Oct. 3, 2025, and it’s already breaking records.
The album consists of 12 song tracks and broke the record for the most single-day sales in the US.
In my opinion, the album is okay. It’s definitely not her best album, but it’s not too bad, either. One big highlight of the album is the background music of most of the songs, with a few exceptions. I also enjoyed the

outfits in the album; they stand out. Shout out to the silver dress with the heart, one of my favorites.
However, one thing I did notice was the lyrics were… questionable. With lyrics like “I can make deals with the devil because my d— is bigger” and “Did you girlboss too close to the sun” (real lyrics of the songs, by the way), there are definitely some strange parts that drop the rating of this album for me quite a bit.
Three songs mainly stood out to me for one reason or another while listening to the album: The Fate of Ophelia, Wood and The Life of a Showgirl (song).
The Fate of Ophelia
One of my favorite songs of the album and a great opener in my opinion. Of all the songs, I think this was the best track to be the opener. I really love the background music of this song. I also liked how the song starts and how the instruments come in and mold together before the lyrics begin. This is definitely a great start for this album and one of her best in a while.
It did have a few faults, but nothing is perfect. The chorus isn’t very catchy or “easy” to sing. But aside from that, I really enjoyed this song. If the album were scored on this song alone, it would be an easy 8/10.
Wood
Honestly, most of the album sounds like a love letter to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, but this song takes it to a different level. This song is clearly all about him, and she’s not trying to hide it. With lyrics such as “his love was the key that opened my thighs” and “The curse on me was broken by your magic wand,” it’s easy to understand what she’s talking about.
I personally found this song awkward when listening to it, as if I were intruding on something personal. Additionally, her song clearly emphasizes the questionable lyrics. To me, the lyrics don’t sound like lyrics she’d say. As someone who listens to a lot of different female artists, I think they sound more like Sabrina Carpenter’s lyrics. I did think the ‘knock on wood’ part was funny, but aside from that, this won’t be a song I’ll search for when I want to listen to music.
The Life of a Showgirl
This is the only song featuring another singer on the album. I really enjoyed this song; I know it’s a Taylor Swift song, but I loved Sabrina’s parts of the song. And honestly, my favorite parts are her solo parts. I love how they sound when they sing together for the chorus.
I also enjoyed the sound of the tour at the end. I am not sure if it’s actually part of the song or just something added to the YouTube music video, but it’s a great way to end the song and to close the album. It may be the only song I will listen to again on my own accord.
I still think the album was just okay and if the lyrics were not a factor, I would rate it higher. However, you should listen to it and form your own opinion.
