In a Super Bowl XLIX rematch, the Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
After the infamous interception on the one yard line by Malcom Butler in 2015, the Seahawks and their fanbase are ready to right the wrongs of the past. However, eleven years later, these two teams will arrive at the big game with a new coat of paint.
It is a new era in both Seattle and New England. Both organizations’ future Hall of Fame coaches are no longer with their respective teams. Tom Brady is not the Patriots signal caller. Instead, its second year quarterback Drake Maye who is coming off an MVP finalist season.
On the other hand, it is a story of redemption. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, who was drafted third overall in 2018, is on his fifth team after early career struggles. However, the 28-year-old has found a home in his first year in Seattle. Darnold has the opportunity to become the first quarterback from the draft class, that included Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson, to win the Super Bowl.
This game is a tale of two of the leagues’ elite defenses colliding. The game will come down to which defense can hold their own and make big plays late in the game. One advantage the Seahawks have over the Patriots is an elite number one receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Smith-Njigba caught 118 passes for 1,793 yards in the regular season. This dynamic weapon could be the difference in a game of inches and errors. The Patriots leading receiver is an aging Stefon Diggs who caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards in his first season in New England. While Smith-Njigba is the best player on offense playing on Sunday, no one wants to win more than Diggs.
