Softball-Looking Forward

UTM Softball has had a strong season thus far.

The season began on Feb. 8 in Georgia against Winthrop University and the regular season will conclude on April 28 at Tennessee Tech.

If their season so far is any indication, they should also end up in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) which will occur May 8-11.

UTM Softball’s current streak is 21-12 overall and 3-1 in their conference.

This season, UTM’s strong offense has been led by Paige Clark. Clark ranks fifth in the OVC with a batting average of .419. She has also stolen 20 bases which leads the league and ranks 22nd nationally.

Softball has played 33 games so far and has 22 games left before the OVC Championship.

In the coming two weeks, softball has seven games. On March 29, UTM Softball plays Eastern Kentucky at home at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in Martin.

On March 31, UTM Softball plays Morehead State in a double header hosted in Martin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

UTM Softball’s next game is against Middle Tennessee State University April 3 at 4 p.m. in Martin.

UTM Softball hits the road three days later on April 6 travelling to Charleston, Illinois, to take on Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

On April 9, UTM Softball will battle Southeast Missouri at home in a double header at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

UTM Softball has had a strong showing so far this season and looks to maintain or improve their .636 winning percent. UTM Softball has an at-home record of 6-1, which it hopes to improve upon in the upcoming games.

UTM has 19 players this year from 8 different states ranging from Tennessee to Michigan.

The five person coaching staff includes a graduate student assistant, Marlee Wilson, and two student assistants, Jessie Douglas and Josh Smith.
