SGA Election: Pro Student

The students of UT Martin should vote for the Pro Student Party for several reasons. First, we will strive to provide adequate funding for student organization. We believe that student organizations are an integral part of the campus community. As members of various student organizations, we understand the hassle of being required to fundraise every dollar that our organizations have. We understand how tiring it is to constantly host bake sales and beg for donations. We believe that these organizations should receive adequate funding from the university, so they can continue to succeed without struggling to make ends meet. Whether they want to pay for food, t-shirts, equipment, transportation, lodging, etc., they should be given funding to buy these things.

Second, the Pro Student Party wants to have bigger and better events on campus. We want to have more singers, rappers, and entertainers come to UT Martin and provide us with world class entertainment. College is supposed to be a time for new experiences, but that doesn’t happen if we go home every week because it is so boring on campus. We will reverse this trend by collaborating with SAC and the administration to bring better entertainment to our campus so that everyone can have a good experience at UTM.

Third, we believe that students from all walks of life should feel welcome at UTM. We believe that we should build a multicultural center that will provide enrichment for our multicultural students. UTM should create more scholarships and opportunities for our multicultural students. We should also ensure that our Homecoming Events are more inclusive to all students. We will work hand and hand with the administration to make our Multicultural Affairs department more efficient. We also want to construct Greek plots and a house for our D9 fraternities and sororities.

Fourth, UTM has a very limited amount of dining options for students. We believe that students should have a variety of options of food to choose from, not just a small food court and dining hall. We want students to be able to eat off-campus and use money from their meal plans/account at off-campus locations. This will help stimulate the local economy of Martin while allowing students to have a wide array of dining choices. We will work diligently with the administration to find the best route to make this idea a reality.

Finally, The Pro Student Party believes that we need to solidify our university community. We think that the lack of participation in athletic events on campus is unacceptable, and it is imperative that we reverse this trend to improve our school. We want students to show support at our athletic events and get involved in student organizations. We want to have huge pep-rallies and parades and send buses full of students to our away games. We will work with the administration and athletics department to spread school spirit and give our student athletes the support that they deserve.

For these reasons listed, we believe that every student at this university should vote for the Pro Student Party. Vote for Change not the status quo. We will advocate on behalf of the students and actually listen to their concerns. Vote April 3rd, 2018 from 10am-6pm @www.utm.edu/election.
