Sam Kean to speak at UTM

Best-selling science author Sam Kean will speak at 7 p.m., Feb. 8, in the

University of Tennessee at Martin’s Watkins Auditorium as part of the 51st-annual Southeastern Undergraduate Research Conference. UT Martin will host the conference Feb. 8-9, and Kean will be the keynote speaker. His presentation is free and open to the public.

Kean is the author of four science-based books including “The Disappearing Spoon,” which will be the subject of his conference presentation. Kean’s work has appeared in The Best American Science and Nature Writing, The New Yorker, The Atlantic and The New York Times Magazine, among other publications. He has also been featured on National Public Radio’s “Radiolab,” “Science Friday” and “All Things Considered,” among other broadcasts.

Kean’s appearance is co-sponsored by the UT Martin Paul Meek Library and Honors Programs, and the conference is coordinated by the Department of Chemistry and Physics. For more information, contact Dr. Robbie Montgomery, interim department chair, at rmontgomery@utm.edu.
