Manga recommendation of the week: ‘Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite’

Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite is a manga written and illustrated by Julietta Suzuki and was released on Oct. 1, 2024. The genre for this manga is a combination of supernatural romance and romantic comedy. As of July 2025, six volumes have been released, with seven and eight scheduled for release in mid-2026.

The manga is about a vampiric recluse named Hina Alucard, who moves to Japan after forming an obsession with the anime series, Vampire Cross. Her life became difficult after an encounter with her rude neighbor, who just so happens to look like the main character from her favorite anime.

It felt slightly like a comedic slice of life in the first volume as she navigates her new life in Japan, trying to balance out her otaku dreams with making friends and learning to interact with people and other vampires as a whole.

For those who don’t know what an otaku is, it’s a person who is obsessed with a popular culture to the point that their social skills are ruined.

Suzuki’s has many other works that are just as good and should be considered if you are interested in the genre. Her most notable work is Kamisama Kiss, which tells the story of a homeless girl who has to pay off her father’s debt and work as a land god at a shrine. Her romance stories are lovely and provide a warm feeling as you read them.

If you like the art style from that popular manga, you will certainly enjoy the style used for Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite. The difference in stories is that, though they are both set in modern times, it feels more like her newer work. The manga itself has a nice slice-of-life element to it while building up a cute romance that reminds me a little bit of Kiss Him Not Me, but not in a weird way.

She is a simple otaku who wants to live out her fantasies and manages to meet a guy who looks a little too close to her favorite anime character. The art style is darling and truly pulls the reader into the story. The only character I have a issue with is the main love interest. He’s a bit of a jerk, but I’m sure that he’ll probably soften up in future chapters.

If you have the time, and like a good romantic comedy, this is perfect to add to your list.
