Is ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ overrated?

Every October and December, “The Nightmare Before Christmas” makes its comeback, the one movie that somehow manages to be both a Halloween classic and a Christmas tradition.

But after 32 years of spooky songs and skeleton Santas, it’s worth asking: is the movie truly timeless, or just overhyped?

The film, released on Oct. 29, 1993, was created by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. Burton and Selick also worked together on other movies, including “James and the Giant Peach”, which was directed by Selick and produced by Burton and Denise De Novi.

The movie is fun, with its mix of Halloween and Christmas vibes, catchy songs and overall aesthetic. Although I love this movie, I wonder if it is truly overrated.

Many stores have shelves full of merchandise for the movie. Retailers like Walmart, T.J. Maxx, Ross, HomeGoods and Marshalls carry “The Nightmare Before Christmas”-themed cookie jars, plates, cups, stuffed animals and other décor. But is anyone actually buying all of this merch?

Some people love the movie and collect items, but I have never actually seen anyone buy merchandise from the movie. Shelves are always stocked with the same items that never seem to sell. Of course, shelves could also stay full because of the poor quality of the items, which is a good reason not to buy something.

Whether the movie is overrated or not is a personal opinion. I personally have never known anyone who loves the movie, and I’ve only seen shelves stocked with merchandise that never gets purchased. This makes it seem like people are not as interested in the movie as everyone thinks. I do not find much interest in the movie myself, but I know many people do.

Overall, “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is a good movie to watch as either a Halloween or a Christmas movie, but I will not be watching it more than once a year.
