Intramural kickoff at UTM

Calling all Skyhawks! Calling all Skyhawks! Intramural sports are back at UTM and here’s how you can get involved.

Registration has already opened for two of the fall intramural sports: ping pong and seven v. seven soccer. The ping pong tournament begins at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 29 in the Student Rec Center lobby and is free of charge. The seven v. seven soccer league begins Monday, Sept. 10 with registration ending Tuesday, Sept. 4 at noon. The games will take place on the Intramural Fields by the Elam Center, and cost $55 per team.

Registration for the disc golf tournament will open Tuesday, Sept. 4, and continue through Monday, Sept. 10, with the tournament beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Harrison Road Complex in Martin. The tournament costs $5 per participant.

Students can register to play in the two-person golf scramble on Monday, Sept. 17. Registration ends at noon on Sept. 20, when the tournament begins. The scramble will be held at the Sharon Golf Course and costs $30 per team to play.

Football season is quickly approaching and if you want to get back into the game, check out UTM’s seven v. seven flag football league. Registration for the league begins on Monday, Sept. 24, and ends on Monday, Oct. 1 at noon. The first game will kick off Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Intramural Fields by the Elam Center, and costs $55 per team to play.

Tennis is also offered in singles or doubles tournaments, registration for which will begin Monday, Oct. 8 and end Thursday, Oct. 11, when the tournament begins. The tournament will be held at the Skyhawk Tennis Courts and costs $5 per player.

UTM also hosts an 8-ball tournament and registration opens on Monday, Oct. 22 and runs through Monday, Oct. 29. The tournament will begin Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the lobby of the Student Recreation Center and is free of charge.

Next is the six v. six volleyball mini-league, for which registration opens on Monday, Oct. 29, and ends at noon on Monday, Nov. 5. Games will begin on Monday, Nov. 12 at the Student Recreation Center North Gym, and costs $30 per team.

Want to compete in water sports? The recreation center hosts an inner-tube water polo tournament. Registration for the tournament opens on Monday, Nov. 12, and ends on Monday, Nov. 19. The tournament begins on Monday, Nov. 26 at the Elam Center Pool and costs $30 per team.

Lastly, for a sport where you might want to refresh yourself on the five D’s of dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge; is UTM’s dodgeball tournament. Registration opens on Monday, Nov. 26, and ends on Monday, Dec. 3. The tournament will begin Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the Student Recreation Center North Gym and costs $15 per team.
