On Friday, March 6, Greek Fest wrapped up at the University of Tennessee at Martin with the Step Show competition.

The evening started a few minutes after 7 p.m. with a greeting from hosts Hallie Abernathy and Chayil Watkins. They greeted and interacted with the audience as they began to prepare for the performances to start.

The competition portion of the evening began with the fraternity division.

The brothers of Kappa Alpha Order were the first and only organization to compete in the fraternity division. The men were dressed as many of the different characters from the beloved video game franchise Mario Kart. Throughout their performance, the men made it known they had won the last two years and intended on winning again.

Alpha Delta Pi went first in the sorority division of the show. Their theme was based on the popular Netflix series “Stranger Things”. The women were dressed in many different outfits to represent the different characters from the show such as Eleven, who played a big part in their performance. They also had different props and backdrops to recreate scenes from the show during their performance. Their step coach was Trey Tipton, a previous step show and line dance coach.

After the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi, the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha performed. The theme of their show was boxing, and they dressed in all-black clothing to insinuate a fight night. Their coach was Jaden Jones, a brother of the Kappa Omicron chapter of Phi Beta Sigma.

The sisters of Chi Omega followed after Zeta Tau Alpha. They were dressed up as race car drivers, and their performance was acted out as a race to the end. Their step coach was Eryn Rose Coure from the Eta Xi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta.

The sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi were the last to compete, closing out the competition. The women brought out a very surprising show themed around the movie “Avatar”. They went all out, dressing in blue outfits with amazing makeup looks to match. They also had some of their sisters in camouflage outfits who played a role in their performance as well. They brought out backdrops and props to interact with during their performance.

Awards were handed out soon after the last organization finished competing.

In the sorority division, first place went to Alpha Delta Pi, and second place went to Zeta Tau Alpha. Kappa Alpha Order won first in the fraternity division, as they were the only ones to compete in that division. The overall best-in-show award went to Alpha Delta Pi. The performance of these organizations were amazing and showed each group put in the time and dedication in the preparation of these performances.
