Flute studio recital of fall offers peace and joy

The UTM Flute Studio held its annual recital on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The recital began with the flute studio playing a ballad from Praetorius called “Terpsichore”.

The last song they played together was “Comedians’ Gallop” by Kabalevsky.

The song choices for the first half of the recital were fast paced and cheerful. The songs radiated a sense of excitement, adventure and, in the end, peace.

Lilah Senibaldi is a junior Flute Performance major from Nashville and was the lead in the recital. Her favorite piece of the performance was P. Gaubert’s “Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando” because it is from the romantic era, which is her favorite era of music. She was accompanied by pianist Chan Mi Jean, lecturer of music.

Lilah said, “It was awesome working with Chan Mi Jean because she is a great person and a great pianist.”

Her biggest piece of advice for other students in this field is, “Don’t overwork yourself, if you do that you will get really discouraged and not like what you are doing. Make sure to write everything down, get all your homework down and practice every day.”

The recital included duets played by Eva Olivares, a junior Integrated Studies Pre K-3 major from Kenton, and Caitlyn Jones, a second year Music Education major from Henderson. They played “Summer Evening”, a delightfully joyous piece that made both musicians happy because of the time they got to spend together working on it.

Other performers include: Shannon Reid, Anna Wildes, Krista Mergen, Matthew Wilson, Gage Shelton, and Gian Garma who accompanied the studio on the piano.
