On Feb. 2, the UT Martin Flight Crew helped students ease back into classes after the snow-in by hosting an off-campus event at The Angry Axe.

The Angry Axe is a popular location in Martin, and it frequently hosts events such as birthday parties and team-building events.

The event was open to all UT Martin students from 6 to 9 p.m., and many students showed up, happy to have something to do in the midst of the cold weather. The event was free for all students and was only a short car ride away from campus.

When asked why they decided to host this event for the students, Zack Newsome, one of the owners of The Angry Axe, said they were glad to give back to the community.

“Just some community outreach,” Newsome said. “There’s nothing to do in Martin, so we like to provide something for everybody to do.”

The event had a great turnout; all the axe-throwing lanes were occupied by 7 p.m., and more people continued to join throughout the night as others left. Employees at The Angry Axe provided instruction at the beginning of the event, teaching safety rules and proper technique to students who had never thrown an axe before. Bells were rung every time a bullseye was hit, and the sound could be heard every few minutes.

Axe throwing was not the only thing available to students. The event also included a pool table, board games and even a golf simulator.

Any students who missed out on this event have nothing to worry about. The Flight Crew hosts many events over the course of each semester, and although they may not all be axe throwing, they offer students more opportunities to get involved and spend time having fun.
