Draft Eligible College QB Power Rankings 1.0: Senior Quarterbacks lead the way

*All statistics come from ESPN.com*

With the conclusion of the third week of the college football season, it is time to begin evaluating the top five draft-eligible quarterbacks (QB).

These power rankings will be part of a four-part series, taking into account all college statistics, mechanics, draftability and potential ceiling in the NFL.

5.) LaNorris Sellers, QB, South Carolina

Sellers, who is coming off a promising 2024 redshirt freshman season, continues to turn heads across the football landscape. The South Carolina Gamecocks’ signal caller through three weeks has thrown for 431 yards on 64.4% completion while only turning the ball over once.

Sellers, unlike any other QB on this list, has the tools to extend plays and create with his legs.  The Gamecocks QB has 45 rushing yards and a touchdown on top of the explosive passing game. Sellers has a chance to fly up the rankings as the season continues.

4.) Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana

Mendoza transferred to Indiana from Cal after spending two seasons with the Golden Bears. The redshirt junior has been flawless through three weeks, leading the 19th-ranked Hoosiers to a 3-0 start, passing for 708 yards, nine touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Mendoza has an NFL frame, standing 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds, in addition to being an above-average athlete. The biggest knock against Mendoza is the program he plays for, but the Hoosier has an opportunity to silence critics with an upset win over Big Ten rival, 9th-ranked Illinois.

Potential NFL Landing Spot: Los Angeles Rams

3.) Drew Allar, QB, Penn State

While many believed there was a high probability that Allar was going to declare for the 2024 draft after the team’s loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the playoffs, the Nittany Lions QB decided to return for his senior season in 2025.

After a 24-touchdown and eight-interception season in 2024, Allar, through three games, has passed for 626 yards, four touchdowns and a single interception on 64.8% completion. Allar has a comparable frame to Mendoza, but having played at a higher level against better competition gives him the edge over Mendoza.

Allar is in a sink-or-swim position. With fast risers like Sellers and Mendoza, and others left off this list,  Allar must continue to play at the high level for the rest of the season for the 2nd-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions.

Potential NFL Landing Spot: Cleveland Browns

2.) Carson Beck, QB, Miami

The former Georgia Bulldog entered the transfer portal following a disappointing 2024 season that ended with a UCL tear in his right elbow and reconstructive surgery. Beck would replace the number one overall pick of the Titans, Cam Ward, in Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes offense.

Beck, now in his senior season, is a seasoned passer from the pocket. The Hurricanes QB has thrown for 812 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions, all while taking on tough competition in Notre Dame and Southern Florida. The Miami Hurricanes sit at 3-0 as they host in-state rival Florida Gators. The expectation is for Beck to be at the top of QB-needy teams’ draft boards come April.

Potential NFL Landing Spot: Miami Dolphins

1) Garrett Nussmeier, QB, LSU

Nussmeier has helped lead the 3rd-ranked LSU Tigers to a 3-0 start in 2025. The senior QB is following an elite 2024 campaign with more high-level QB play so far in 2025 with 689 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Nussmeier has elite pocket presence and mechanics and will be at the top of many teams’ draft boards from here until the draft in April. While the LSU QB lacks the size his fellow QB prospects have, that will not scare NFL front offices from selecting the Heisman favorite.
