Diving into Gachiakuta

The world of Gachikuta is complex and good for beginners if they like to think a little bit.

The plot isn’t hard to follow, but I want to highlight some interesting characters from the manga.

Fair warning: if you haven’t read past the current point of the Gachiakuta manga beyond where the anime stops at Episode 18, I suggest you skip this article.

Starting with Rudo Surebrec himself, who has both sky and ground ancestry, especially descending from the creator of the Watchman Series, was a really interesting discovery. The first time that we see traces of his ancestry with the Undertaker, is all the way back in Canvas Town when he is there to help Remlin with her historical painting with the other kids. They spend the day with the new town artist, helping with her portrait and then discover that one of the older town artists was close with the Undertaker who created the Watchman series, Canis Surebrec.

In the manga, it isn’t quite clear how he ended up on the sphere, came into contact with Regto, ended up with his curse, or how Regto came into contact with the Watchman gloves. What we can do is theorize based on the things that Tamsy Caines says throughout the series.

Tamsy holds a significant role in how the entire manga progresses, from framing Rudo in the beginning on the Sphere, to further working with him as a cleaner. We really get into his double life as the Angel that Amo claims to see during “Chapter 92: Tamsy’s Day Off”.

He starts off the chapter in his bedroom, listening to what appears to be heavy metal, then either something soft, such as classical or radio static. It’s unclear when you’re just reading the manga, but the message still feels the same. He already has a really eerie feeling throughout the entire manga in the background.

It’s only solidified in this chapter after he wishes Rudo luck in finding his friend, all while knowing good and well where she is and that he had her locked up. He even goes as far as to go with Rudo and the team after they find out where Amo is located, feigning ignorance.

If Rudo knew that the very man he wanted to punch was right under his nose as he stated later in the manga, how would he feel knowing that he was right there the entire time? The chapter that Rudo finds out, we’re hoping that we get more of a concrete answer than him simply wanting the Watchman book from Regto.

We can also hope that in future chapters, there is a better understanding with how Rudo’s ancestry made its way up to the sphere.

There isn’t much to say about the raiders in terms of lore, besides how they formed or gained Zodyl as the leader at only 23 years old. I’m thinking that he took the spot in a show of power, especially with the Watchman jacket as his vital instrument. There are as many questions in this series as there are things to look into.

This topic may be revisited in a future article if readers show interest.
