Creative Corner

Caitlin Sanchez is a senior Studio Art major from Henderson.

Art is her favorite way to spend her time, and it is how she communicates best with others.

“For me, art is about self expression and [is] a creative outlet,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez works in printmaking. Carving the blocks allows her to focus and gather her thoughts.

“It’s a pretty labor intensive process, and it’s almost like a form of meditation.”

Sanchez encourages younger artists to be open to different art forms and styles before deciding on one specific style.

She will have pieces featured during the senior art exhibitions, which will begin March 10 in the Fine Arts Gallery. The pieces that will be featured in her senior exhibit are based around the area of rural Tennessee in which she grew up.

“They’re images of myself and my siblings combined with plants, animals and scenes from the house that we grew up in and the surrounding countryside,” she said.

Sanchez had pieces featured in the 2019 edition of BeanSwitch, and she will be entering several pieces into the LSA student show, which will take place in February.
