Broadway stars sing separated children home

The charity album Singing You Home – Children’s Songs for Family Reunification was released online on Oct. 26.

The album features songs performed by prominent Broadway actors such as Lin Manuel-Miranda, Idina Menzel, Josh Groban, Cynthia Erivo, Jason Robert Brown and Kristin Chenoweth.

Singing You Home – Children’s Songs for Family Reunification was created to support children separated from their families at the border, both emotionally and financially.

The album is made up of seven songs performed in both English and Spanish, ranging from traditional Spanish and English lullabies to original songs.

The album also contains a cover of Josh Groban’s 2006 song “Lullaby”, which also features Wicked star, Idina Menzel.

Many of the songs on the album, such as “Arrorró Mi Niño” and original track “Singing You Home” are broken up into segments of both Spanish and English.

In a promotional video posted on YouTube channel “Ghostlight Records”, Laura Benanti, the Broadway star who conceived the idea for the album, says, “I really hope that when they hear these voices they know people are thinking of them, and that they’re not forgotten, and that they can be reminded of their parents who love them and who are fighting for them, and that there are people who are standing alongside their mothers and fathers who are working so that they can be together again”.

Benanti’s album not only serves to bring children hope, it also aims to support organizations that personally help these children separated from their families.

Most of the proceeds go to two specific charities: Refugee and Immigration Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) and Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP).

According to its website, RAICES “promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Texas”.

ASTEP is a charity that utilizes music and the performing arts to inspire children as well as to help them escape poverty.

Singing You Home – Childrens’ Songs for Family Reunification is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon and Ghostlight Records’ website. It is also available to stream on both Spotify and Apple Music.
