2025-26 MLB Offseason Predictions: Mets and Giants spend big

The MLB offseason is officially underway and players are free to meet and sign with new teams. With the impending lockout after the 2026 season, how will that affect the offseason?

This set of predictions will include contract predictions, potential landing spots and team predictions. In addition, there are trade destinations for those on the trade market.

1.) Kyle Tucker, OF, 29 years old
2025 team: Chicago Cubs

Following a hot start to the 2025 season, Tucker was unable to stay healthy. As a result, Tucker’s numbers dipped as he finished the season with a .266 BA / 22 HR / 73 RBI in 150 games. Most of the big market ball clubs are expected to be involved in the sweepstakes with the hope of pulling Tucker away from Dodger blue.

Potential landing spots: Dodgers | Yankees | Giants | Blue Jays | Phillies
Prediction: Giants, 11 years, $418 million

2.) Framber Valdez, SP, 32 years old
2025 team: Houston Astros

Valdez is one of the most durable arms in all of baseball, having started at least 28 games in the last five seasons. While the relationship between himself and the Astros seems broken beyond repair, Valdez has no shortage of suitors this offseason.

Potential landing spots: Giants | Cubs | Blue Jays | Braves | Phillies | Mets
Prediction: Blue Jays, five years, $148 million

3.) Bo Bichette, INF, 28 years old
2025 team: Toronto Blue Jays

Bichette and the Blue Jays made it all the way to Game 7 of the World Series against the juggernaut that is the Dodgers. While they fell short, this has a feeling of unfinished business for Bichette. He has many opportunities and the Blue Jays can match any offer Bichette receives.

Potential landing spots: Blue Jays | Phillies | Mets | Braves
Prediction: Blue Jays, eight years, $220 million

4.) Alex Bregman, INF, 32 years old
2025 team: Boston Red Sox

After a solid season with the Red Sox, Bregman can now enter free agency once again and finally secure the long-term deal he has searched for. Bregman could return to Boston; however, there is going to be competition for Red Sox brass and it will not come cheap.

Potential landing spots: Mets | Phillies | Red Sox | Tigers | Cubs
Prediction: Tigers, five years, $155 million

5.) Dylan Cease, SP, 30 years old
2025 team: San Diego Padres

Cease’s reputation as one of the most dependable arms in baseball most likely guarantees one of the biggest contracts of the offseason. Of course, the savvy and controversial agent of his, Scott Boras, should help achieve a top-dollar contract. Cease and Boras Corp seek to get every last penny, and Boras has the market to make it happen.

Potential landing spots: Mets | Braves | Cubs | Giants
Prediction: Braves, six years, $172 million

6.) Pete Alonso, 1B, 31 years old
2025 team: New York Mets

The Polar Bear came back to the Mets on a one-year deal last offseason. Following a career year, Alonso returns to the open market with a chance to secure a long-term deal. Unfortunately for Mets fans, it holds a high chance of being for another team. The Mets have depth in the infield and a true need for pitching, although it is difficult to imagine Alonso elsewhere.

Potential landing spots: Mets | Red Sox | Rangers | Phillies
Prediction: Red Sox, six years, $156 million

7.) Tatsuya Imai, SP, 28 years old
2025 team: Saitama Seibu Lions (NPB)

The next Japanese sensation on the mound is headed to MLB in the form of Imai. The short and crafty right-hander has his eyes set on the big market teams around the league who want their own glimpse of the Japanese market boost that great players provide.

Potential landing spots: Mets | Red Sox | Cubs | Yankees | Giants | Braves | Angels
Prediction: Giants, eight years, $205 million

8.) Kyle Schwarber, DH, 33 years old
2025 team: Philadelphia Phillies

In a big offseason for the Phillies, there is an expectation that Dave Dombrowski plans to make major changes to the roster prior to the 2026 season. Schwarber, one of the best hitters in baseball, has an opportunity to test the open market for one last big payday following 56 HR in 2025.

Potential landing spots: Mets | Red Sox | Cubs | Yankees | Phillies
Prediction: Phillies, four years, $150 million

9.) Ranger Suárez, SP, 30 years old
2025 team: Philadelphia Phillies

Suárez is another Phillies free agent and is set to be one of the odd men out of that rotation. With Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola locked up long term, Suárez hits the open market. The highly dependable southpaw finds a new home elsewhere.

Potential landing spots: Mets | Cubs | Braves | Tigers | Orioles
Prediction: Mets, six years, $120 million

10.) Cody Bellinger, OF, 30 years old
2025 team: New York Yankees

Bellinger has found a home in New York with the Yankees. However, the Gold Glove-caliber fielder in both the outfield and at first base enters free agency at 30 years old with a chance to finally land the big contract he has eyed since 2023.

Potential landing spots: Yankees | Mets | Dodgers | Rangers
Prediction: Mets, six years, $145 million

11.) Michael King, SP, 31 years old
2025 team: San Diego Padres

One of the more interesting names on the market, King—a reliever turned top-of-the-rotation starter—is set for a nice payday. One interesting note from King is he does not have many innings pitched on his résumé. King pitched a career-high 173.2 innings in 2024 before only 73.1 in 2025.

Potential landing spots: Yankees | Mets | Orioles | Rangers | Cubs | Tigers
Prediction: Cubs, four years, $95 million

12.) Eugenio Suárez, INF, 34 years old
2025 teams: Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners

After a massive 2025, where he hit 49 HR and 119 RBI, Suárez enters free agency for what he hopes is the final time. Teams can never have enough thump in the lineup, and Suárez’s talents are heavily sought after.

Potential landing spots: Rangers | Cubs | Phillies | Tigers | Angels | Reds
Prediction: Phillies, three years, $65 million
