Homecoming participation applications due Sept. 20

Thanks to Undergraduate Alumni Council (UAC), Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Activities Council (SAC), Homecoming Week (Sept. 30 to Oct. 6) is approaching, and in order to have this year’s week of events running smoothly, all those participating will to take these necessary steps.

All organizations entering one event or more must submit an active roster of the organization to the Alumni Office no later than Sept. 20.

As for banners, all banners must be picked up from the Alumni Office starting Friday, Sept. 13 and must be returned to the Alumni Office no later than Sept. 27. The banner size is 48 inches tall by 24 inches wide and made to hang (vertically, not horizontally) 48 inches from a banner pole. All banners will be displayed in the UC during Homecoming Week and returned at Quad City. 3-D objects may be attached to the banner, but may not hang lower than the bottom edge of the banner. Banners must represent a 20s theme and have positive school spirit and appropriate material.

As for Rope Pull rules, each member must be active in the chapter and enrolled as a student at UTM. The roster may have a maximum size of 20 and no more than 10 members. To prevent injury, do not wear cleats or turf shoes. Hand protection is permitted; however, no gloves may be worn or any other substance that produces better grip. 30 minutes of dig time is allowed for the first pull of the tournament; all other pulls will be allowed 15 minutes. Each team will have a maximum of three coaches, UTM alumni or students, within the pulling area, and at no time can a coach assist in a way that gives the puller an advantage. Mocking of other teams, violations of lock down rule or confronting the judge in a hostile way will result in dismal from the event and possibly from future events.

Student Activities Council has announced that Lip Sync will occur at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 on the north side of the Elam Center; should there be stormy weather, it will be rescheduled to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 inside the Elam Center. Each participating group will submit their top three words choices for Lip Sync on the Lip Sync Application. Skits cannot exceed five to seven minutes in length and in order to help the progression of the show, SAC is limiting size on all stage props to the size of a normal chair with no large backdrops, furniture, etc. Music must be submitted to the SAC office (UC, Room 213) by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 on a CD (MP3 or WMA format will not be accepted) with the name of the organizations. On the night of the event, props and performers must be backstage by 6:30 p.m.; the order of performances will be drawn at that time. Remember to act respectfully towards other participating groups and have appropriate school spirit from the audience; if this is ignored, it will result in disqualification.

The Pyramid competition will take place 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 in the Elam Center. As for Pyramid Building Rules, teams will be composed of 16 members or less. No current members of the UTM cheerleading squad will be permitted to participate. All members of the teams must be students and current due-paying members. Each pyramid must connect (otherwise it will be considered a stunt) and be no more than 2.5 people high. It also must remain standing for a minimum of 3 seconds. The entire routine should last between four and six minutes. Props that support the weight of the pyramid are not permissible. For warm ups, each team will be given five minutes beginning 2.5 hours before the competition starts and may not practice pyramids over 1.5 people high. The highest points are given to pyramids/stunts and cheering from the audience.

Reservation in Quad City will be given by submitting the reservation form, accompanied by payment. Please make checks payable to: UT Alumni Association-Martin Office. Tents will be erected by Thursday at 6 p.m. Tables and chairs will be delivered before noon on Friday and at the end of the event. Food can be catered, cooked on site or purchased at the main food tent. All vehicles must be moved from the Quad by 10 a.m. All decorations must be taken down by 6 p.m. Saturday evening. Power generators can be used for electricity; however, no power cords are allowed to run across sidewalks. The Alumni Office is not responsible for damage to any site. Judging will begin 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
